Foundation Pieced Quilts - End of term, show and tell.

Yesterday Foxy Quilters celebrated the end of term with a Christmas party and 'Show and Tell'. Lots of these ladies attend my Tuesday morning classes and the photos show their completed (or nearly completed) foundation pieced quilts.

This first quilt belongs to Marion. It is a medallion style quilt.

Same quilt, but slightly different, by Sue. Only Sue and Marion chose the sampler quilt, everyone else opting for the sampler quilts.

Val's blue and white sampler quilt
Sylvia's very colourful sampler - destined for her motor home.
 Chris's quilt, lovely muted shades.
Di's sampler with piano key border. She disliked these fabrics to begin with but is really pleased with the result.
Liz's pink sampler, no borders yet but looking lovely. Liz is exploring the 'quilt as you go' method.
Maureen's stained glass sampler quilt. Batiks have worked brilliantly for this.
Angela's sampler made with William Morris fabrics.

Lovely quilts! Next term we will be exploring circular blocks!

Quilting classes at Thorpe Hesley.

Classes start again next week in Thorpe Hesley near Rotherham in South Yorkshire. There are still places available in the Wednesday morning class if you would like to join us. We will be making foundation pieced quilts this term.
Here are some photos of quilts the class members made last term.

It would be lovely if you could join us!

Thorpe Hesley Sampler Quilts

This week is the last week of term for further education classes and on Wednesday my Thorpe Hesley class had its first proper show and tell. We had a lovely lunch too!
The first thing we made was a sampler quilt and for most of the students this was their first quilt.
It was so lovely to see them all finished and so proudly displayed for everyone to see

Beryl's includes lots of vintage fabric, particularly Laura Ashley.
Chris's quilt was made for her Grandaughter.
 Eileen made a Christmas quilt.
Kath's is made with lovely Tanya Whelan fabrics and is also for her Grandaughter.
Eileen's quilt is already proudly displayed on her bed and she is now working on a headboard.
Sheila's quilt includes fabrics which belonged to her parents for a special memory quilt.
Margaret chose this lovely blue and pink colour scheme.
Carol's quilt is all made in solids - quite Amish in style I think.
Lynne's quilt is made with lovely subtle shades - very stylish.

I am thrilled with the quilts they have made and am so happy that we have been able to establish a quilting class at Thorpe Hesley. We have places available in September if you would like to join us - we are just off junction 35 of the M1.

Running With Scissors Sheffield

Recently I have been teaching for 'Running With Scissors' which is a company who organises craft workshops in Sheffield.
Yesterday I taught my Log Cabin cushion workshop which was a great way to spend a rainy Saturday in June.

As you can see Laura is very happy with her completed cushion.

Most of the fabrics in Hannah's cushion were bought for her by her boyfriend as a surprise Christmas gift!
Her other Christmas presents were wrapped in this fabric! I am sure you will recognise some of the Alexander Henry sugar skull prints.
Emma made this lovely cushion to match her bright blue sofa.
Caroline decided to go for a monochrome effect.

A couple of months ago I did a course for Emma in which the students made an entire quilt.
The following photos show their lovely quilts - every one of them beautiful!

Liberated Piecing Workshop for Quilters Guild Region 14 Contemporary Quilt Group

Last Saturday I was invited to teach a workshop on Liberated Piecing for the Region 14 Contemporary Quilt Group.
We had a great day making liberated stars, square in a square, asterisk and hash sign blocks, wonky trees and houses.
Here are some of the finished blocks.
Hope to see some finished items at the next meeting in April!

You can read Sandra's report on the workshop here

Log Cabin Cushion Cover for Running With Scissors Sheffield

On November 12th I did a workshop for Running With Scissors in Sheffield.
We made log cabin cushion covers in the 'Quilt as you go' method.
Here are the finished cushions!

It was a lovely new venue in Meersbrook Sheffield and everyone had a very enjoyable day with lots of time to play with bright modern fabrics.

I will be returning to Running With Scissors for a two day Patchwork Quilt workshop in the Spring of 2012.

Strings and Crumbs Workshop

On October 15th I did a workshop for the ladies in my Embroidery and Quilting group entitled 'Strings and Crumbs'.
In the morning we made string pieced stars.
Here are some photos of completed blocks.

In the afternoon we moved on to crumb piecing.

Cherry made a lovely doll quilt top.

Things get a bit messy with all those scraps!

Here are some of the lovely crumb blocks they made.
